Here we go again

I was thinking of keeping this blog apolitical and focused on Astrobiology, but, on reflection, I'm going to keep Fridays open for other matters. This week it's something that angers me beyond my capacity to express.

Here we have the spectacle of the UN mission in Somalia "accused" of being in cahoots with the local Islamic nutcase militias who have reduced the nation to beggary and poverty. So, it's the Congo all over again. In the Congo, lest anyone forget, the UN, which sat on its hands during the genocide of Tutsis in Rwanda, only showed up to shower aid on the Hutu killers when they were finally driven out by the Tutsi survivors. When they weren't aiding king-size death squads, they were extorting sex from children .

Now they've moved onto Somalia to repeat the cycle.

Certain members of the science blogosphere are very good at pounding on the Catholic Church for its child-rape and aid of fascism - and who would disagree? But why is it that we can't get a similar condemnation of this sort of thing if its done by the UN?
