Good grief

The "Black Atheists of Atlanta" have to be seen to be believed.  Of course, P.Z. Myers ways in with his usual moral clarity:

they're pushing the same bigoted, homophobic nonsense that I'd expect to hear from a white Republican teabagger
To take that last word first, I guess he thought calling them "doodoo heads" was a little too sophisticated.  I do wonder about people like this, who really think that there is only one group in the world who are capable of bigotry.

District 9, anyone?

Speaking of intimidation

While I was attending a BHA event last night, it appears that other people were receiving far worse for annoying religion.

Money quote:
Really hope that people understand this and stop threatening me.
As Sam Harris says, "Islam is a religion of peace, and if you disagree, we will kill you."  Terrific.

Sam Harris on the moral landscape

His point about criticism of Islam being left to our own religious lunatics (or worse) never stops being relevant.  I just wish he'd realize that the business of formulating an objective, universal code of ethics has already been done.

Richard Dawkins writing up Christopher Hitchens

As a hero, naturally.

This is worth noting:

Unlike his predecessor, who mixed in some saintly qualities, Benedict XVI is an authentic villain, and even better qualified than John Paul II to bring down the second most evil religion in the world.
Once again, the atheist elite get it.  Though even second place is questionable; I stand by my assertion that we haven't looked hard enough at Buddhism and it's tradition of pederasty.  And don't get me started on the Hindu caste system.
But my main point stands - there's no question which religion is number one on this list.

Eloquent, witty, literate, intelligent, knowledgeable, brave, erudite, hard-working, honest (who could forget his clean-through skewering of Mother Teresa's hypocrisy?), arguably the most formidable debater alive today yet at the same time the most gentlemanly, Christopher Hitchens is a giant of the mind and a model of courage.
Quite right.

Adding CSI to my list

Christian Solidarity International is one of the few groups that seems to keep the issue of Sudanese slavery alive.
