Social conservatism on crack

Gene expression has a good post up with reference to a Gallup Coexist poll on the subject of attitudes of Muslim versus non-Muslim views on such matters as the acceptance of homosexuality, abortion etc. The figure that struck me is the percentage of British Muslims who think that homosexuality is morally acceptable: 0%. That's right, zero percent.

Now, take a look across the Atlantic to Toronto, would you? Toronto is, quote "one of the most multicultural cities in the world", close quote. It has just also elected one of the most stereotypical conservatives one could find. That is, in addition to laudable goals such as not wasting the taxpayers substance, he is known for what one might call a highly unreconstructed view on matters such as gay rights and AIDS, endorsing someone called Pastor Wendell Brereton who believes, amongst other things, that same-sex marriage will dismantle a healthy democracy. Added to that, his opponent is an openly gay man living with his husband.

Now go back to the start and ask yourself: who do you think voted for Mr. Ford?
